Song Analysis: Sweet Cream Ladies, Forward March

One only has to hear the first two verses of this 1969 top-30 hit by The Box Tops to realize "Hey!  Am I mistaken, or is this song actually glorifying the 'untold virtues' of the age-old 'profession' of prostitution?" (done freelance style, of course).

...think of what you're giving
to the lost and lonely people of the night.
Out of need they seek "direction" for their life.
They will "love" you in the darkness,
take advantage of your starkness,
and refuse to recognize you in the light ...

...tell the socialites to look the other way.
It's "instinctive stimulation" you convey.
It's a "necessary function",
and for those without compunction,
who get tired of "vanilla every day" ...

...and, on the final verse:

...let them satisfy "the ego of the male",
let them fabricate "success" to those who fail ...

...of course such sentiments are sure to run dry these days, due to all the horror stories surrounding the "human sex trafficking" phenomenon so omnipresent anymore.

If some lady does actually take it upon herself to provide such services of her own free will (adult-to-adult presumably) all those "concerned" will still insist on believing she's most likely being put up to it by strongarm black-market gangsters who most likely escort her back to some make-shift "Auschwitz" type environment when the night (and, thus, her "shift") is over.
